Caring for the Elderly
Nizi Bhandari's belief that "if you can help, you're the chosen one" doesn't stop at children. It reaches all the way to the other end of life — to the retired, the neglected, and the elders who have been left behind.
In short
Standing with those at the end of the journey
Through the Iva and Shiv Foundation, Nizi Bhandari supports homes for the aged in Davao City, Philippines — the places that take in retirees, the neglected, and elders abandoned by the families they once raised. It's quiet work, far from any spotlight. But it hasn't gone unnoticed.
On a single day — 17 May 2025 — two separate Davao City homes for the elderly each put their gratitude in writing, presenting the foundation with a certificate of appreciation. Here is each one, and the story behind it.

Care for the Elderly Foundation, Inc. — a Home for the Aged
In Biao-Guianga, in the Tugbok District of Davao City, there is a place that calls itself simply a Home for the Aged. Its residents are retirees and elders who, for one reason or another, have nowhere else to turn — people the certificate describes, with painful honesty, as "neglected, abandoned and less fortunate." For them, this home is the last family they have.
The Iva and Shiv Foundation came alongside that home to support the humanitarian work it does every day — the unglamorous, essential business of feeding, caring for and keeping company with people the world has largely forgotten. It is the same instinct that drives all of Nizi's giving: when you can ease someone's burden, you don't wait to be asked.
The home's founder, Fe Bada-Arobo, marked that support with a Certificate of Appreciation — a small piece of paper that carries a great deal of meaning for the elders it represents.
"…for the invaluable contribution rendered in support for the humanitarian activities and programs of the retirees, neglected, abandoned and less fortunate elderly residents of this Institution."
— Care for the Elderly Foundation, Inc., signed Fe Bada-Arobo, Founder/Executive Director

St. Therese Senior Care Center
That very same day, on the other side of Davao City — in Gulf View, Bago Aplaya — the elders of St. Therese Senior Care Center were on Nizi's mind too. This is a place where age is met with proper care: a centre run with a nurse's attention to the dignity of every resident, where growing old is treated not as a burden but as a season that deserves tenderness.
The foundation's support here was recognised not just as a donation, but as something steadier — a "commitment, dedication and adherence to the core values" of the centre and its care for the elderly. To be thanked in those words, by the people who do this work day in and day out, is its own kind of honour.
The certificate was presented by the centre's manager, Dolor B. Sambayon, RN — a small, sincere thank-you from one circle of carers to another.
"In grateful recognition of their commitment, dedication and adherence to the core values of St. Therese Senior Care Center and for its dedicated efforts & support to our elderly."
— St. Therese Senior Care Center, signed Dolor B. Sambayon, RN, Center Manager
"A society is measured by how it treats those who can no longer give back. These elders gave their whole lives — the least we can do is make sure they are fed, cared for, and remembered."— Nizi Bhandari
Not a one-off
A belief that crosses borders
This care for elders isn't limited to two homes, or even to one country. Nizi has stepped in for an abandoned old-age home in the Philippines with food and survival supplies, and supported Jodhana Vradhashram, an old-age home in Jodhpur, India. The thread that ties them together is the same one that runs through everything he does — read more about the belief behind it, or who Nizi Bhandari is.
